Sushi Rice
Ingredients
- ½ cup uncooked short grain white sushi rice
- 2/4-cup water
- 2 Tbs. rice vinegar
- ¾ tsp vegetable oil (sesame or sunflower)
- 1 Tbs. white sugar
- ¼ tsp. salt
Preparation
Rinse the rice in a strainer to remove any residues. Combine the rice and the water
in a medium saucepan. Bring to the boil, reduce heat, cover and cook for 20 minutes
or until rice is tender and the water is absorbed. Cool the rice until cold enough
to handle.
In a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, oil, sugar and salt and cook over
medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Cool, the mixtures and stir it into the rice.
The rice will first appear very wet but as you stir it will dry as it cools.
