Green Tea Manju

Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1-cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp powdered green tea
  • 2 cups red adzuki bean paste
  • 2 egg whites (unbeaten)
  • 1/3-cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2-cup milk
Preparation

Add the sugar to ½ cup of water. Sift together the flour, baking powder, sugar and powdered green tea. Add the egg whites and oil to the mixture and knead well. Add the milk while stirring until the dough is soft and smooth but not runny and not too sticky. You may or may not need to use all of the milk for this. Divide the dough into 18 pieces and roll into small balls. Flatten each ball, place a smaller ball of red bean paste in the middle and pinch closed. Steam the balls for 15 minutes.
